We March For Macragge!

It’s stupid o’clock and I’m still awake from the 8 hour adrenalin rush that is Warhammer 40,000 : SPACE MARINE.

Let me stop you right there, reader. Warhammer isnt just for kids. Since we’re talking 40k here, i’ll explain what there is.

Warhammer 40,000 video game SPACE MARINE

(There’s been other video games, but they’re kind of hard to find now)

Space Marine follows the story of Captain Titus, of the poster boys Ultramarines chapter. you shoot, chop and stomp through hordes of orks for about 10 missions, then chaos renegades, daemons and marines for another 5. the overarching storyline involves an inquisitor and is generally cool.

Combat is incredibly satasfying and each remotely interesting kill slows the game down, ala 300 (that bit where whatshisname manly man is wading through persians)

The game is scaled properly and the forge world you spend your gametime on feels like it belongs. Any 40k fan worth their weight in dirt will feel right at home in the familiar coridoors and courtyards of the manafactoriums.

theres no political bollocks to worry about, no moral decisions, no good or bad ending. just smash your way through the constantly exciting missions.

The game plays and feels like it was made in the past, but with current gen graphics. at no point does it try and hold your hand and treat you like a child. also if you want to use cover, you have to just stand behind it. you don’t need to glue yourself to no chest high wall like a girl. The entire thing, while grim and dark, isn’t just grey and brown.

My only gripe is the online, which at present, barely works. we had the same problem with Retribution in its first days, the matchmaking system is a complete shamble and can not handle this many people. plus microphones seem to be stuck on (didn’t cause me bother, i just chanted space marine battle hymns while playing)

There’s supposed to be drop in co-op too but i’ve not given that a try yet.

Overall, it’s entirely worth playing, even if you’re not one of us “Obsessive nerds” who likes those “overpriced bits of plastic”. Just 8 hours of uncomplicated bliss.

And stop thinking like that. if you must insist on hating it, remember the IP of 40k is an English creation and it’s one of the few things this country still exports.
